The Board of ENUSP and our members extend our condolences and sympathy for the passing of Dorothea Buck to her colleagues, family and friends. She lived through extremely difficult times in Nazi Germany, underwent forced sterilization and yet she survived. Dorothea was an example of a true warrior who despite her very painful past remained active, enthusiastic and hopeful for the future. She was a reminder that drugs without human passion and empathy are just chemistry and that the core goal of psychiatry is a conversation, a searching for understanding and human help. She lived until the age of 102 and stayed active in the interest of users and survivors of psychiatry up until her death. Dorothea will remain a role model and an inspiration for (ex-)users and survivors of psychiatry, for women who have undergone forced interventions, as well as for elderly people who wish to stay active at an advanced age.

With her we are saying goodbye to a whole century, and part of the living history of the (ex-)user and survivor movement. She will be greatly missed by all of us. May she rest in peace. http://www.bpe-online.de/english/dorotheabuck.htm#art

European Network of (Ex-)Users and Survivors of Psychiatry

ENUSP gives (ex-)users and survivors of psychiatric services across Europe a way to communicate so that we can support one other in the personal, political and social struggle against injustice and discrimination.

We are the only grassroots umbrella organisation working across Europe to unite local and national organisations of (ex-)users and survivors of psychiatry. We directly represent the views of people who are or have been on the receiving end of psychiatric services.
